Full-featured mixer but poor sound quality

Review Date: December 4, 2009
Reviewer: L. Van, Washington, DC
I bought this mixer because of the digital inputs on this mixer and to go with my Denon HD2500 controller, which has digital outputs. I thought that connecting the controller with the mixer using the digital coaxial cable would improve the sound quality, but after experimenting with using the digital coaxial cable (from the controller to the mixer) and comparing the sound with using the regular RCA stereo cables that came with the controller, I discovered that the sound quality coming out of the mixer using the digital cable is worse than the analog RCA cable! The difference was not major but I did notice that there was more punch in the bass with the analog RCA cable than with the digital cable. It appears that the mixer is converting the digital signal into analog in the mixer before passing the signal onto the outputs. This is confirmed by Denon according to the DJ forum for the X900 (see the posting on mixer noise). This fact defeats the purpose of having digital inputs, which was the reason I bought this mixer. But as I found out, having digital inputs on this mixer does not mean superior sound quality.
Denon X900 DJ Mixer - AN OVERLOOKED SHINING STAR!

Review Date: May 11, 2007
Reviewer: Conspiracy, Akron, Ohio
The Denon brand has long been a club standard and a familiar fixture in DJ booths far and wide, especially when it comes to DJ CD players. But what better way to leverage and compliment the fantastic features of the Denon CD player line than to use a Denon mixer?

The X900 is currently Denon's flagship 19" (rack-mountable, 4U) DJ mixer. It doesn't attain "flagship" status just because of the cool lights and colossal number of buttons and levers... instead, it relies on a formidable feature set, unmatched sound quality/clarity, standard-setting build quality, and Denon durability!

The X900 is a digital matrix mixer, Breaking that down to reveal the true nature of the X900, "DIGITAL" means that the mixer has both digital inputs (4, via digital coaxial) and digital outputs (2, via digital coaxial & Toslink [optical]) and "MATRIX" means that the devices you connect to the mixer don't necessarily have to be plugged into a certain channel. Rather, once the device is connected, you use an input selector knob to assign the input for that particular channel. You can even have a single device simultaneously selected as the input for multiple channels.

After many hours of research and competitive shopping, the features that sold me most on this mixer and were most important in my decision to buy it were these: a) Each channel has its own volume level meter, so you can accurately adjust the gains for better transitions. b) Each channel also has its own 3-band EQ adjust/kill. If you decide you'd rather adjust the EQ levels of the master out rather than separate channels, you can deselect independent EQ. c) Amazing sound quality and clarity is yet another factor that impacted my decision to purchase this mixer. That quality and clarity is direct result of the X900's digital capabilities). d) And finally, the ability to record from a digital source was a big plus. I regularly use my digital optical output to record my sets into a laptop via the sound card. Forget about having to go back and track your sets out... because there's a track mark button that allows you to record directly to a CD burner and create track markers (and separate tracks) on the fly while you're spinning.

The X900's matrix capabilities allow you to select any of the channels to the booth monitor so you can listen just as you would listen in your headphones. For shows that might include an emcee or hostess, this unit features a mic talk-over function that decreases the volume of the music when us of the mic begins. Sensitivity of the talk-over is adjustable. Overall, the controls of the X900 are placed intuitively, the features are easy to use, and because of those two factors, the X900 is an easy piece of equipment to get the hang of quickly.

Some of my colleagues are devout supporters of knobbed mixers... while others (such as I) prefer sliders. The X900, however, allows you the best of both worlds because you can swap out the sliders for knobs! The sliders, while we're on the subject, are exceptionally smooth and cause equal gain change along the length of the throw (as opposed to a wickedly sensitive first or final third of the throw).

There are other brands of mixers out there that have similar feature sets, and some may come close in matching the X900's sound clarity... but there isn't another mixer that I've used, read about, or heard about that does everything as well as the Denon x900 while maintaining such a great value point. These competitors generally cost hundreds of dollars more and don't have a feature set equivalent to even the previous generation Denon flagship mixer (the X500). The X900 is definitely an overlooked shining star when it comes to selecting and purchasing a durable, cost-effective, and feature-reach DJ tool to showcase your talents.

I've owned my X900 since Dec 2005 and I use it every day to practice/rehearse and occasionally for mobile gigs. I haven't had a single issue or complaint with it. My X900 is the perfect compliment for my Denon DN-D6000, and I'm looking to add a set of Denon Tabletops to my war chest very soon!

I want a hello kitty tattoo. Probably like below my collar bone or somewhere else easily hidden for job purposes. Anyone know of some cool designs?

Its a new song always on the radio, sounds kindof like gnarles? The main lyric is "Betty boop" does anyone know? Its making me crazy!

A2ZCDS.com is BAD

Review Date: November 7, 2009
Reviewer: Donald Gavron, Woodbridge, NJ
I ordered this set THREE times and each time it was defective. These cartoons are NOT remastered as the advertising states, merely transferred from bad video tapes. There are many glitches in the playback. Some cartoons just stop and don't go any further, some just freeze up the player. I tried these discs on three different players and got the same result : POOR QUALITY. This is not worth the money. Don't risk it.
Beware! Not an official release! Not a superior collection!

This is not an official release. For whatever reasons the 8-volume Betty Boop - The Definitive Collection [VHS] released 11 years ago on VHS & Laserdisc formats, the (so far) ultimate and remastered collection, remains unreleased by the copyright holder, Republic Pictures Home Video. People are reporting problems with these discs, hardly suprising, since they're buying them from pirates, and not the copyright holder.

Do yourself a favor-- buy the video box set, and if you really *must* have them on DVD transfer them to DVD yourself, most new computers with a DVD burner can do this with a minimum of fuss and effort.
Betty Bloopers for Betty Boopers

Review Date: August 20, 2009
Reviewer: W. Hankin,
Overall, if you are a Betty Boop fan some of the selections here are worth looking at. This particular collection is not of the best quality. The videos have been copied from sources equal to what you can see free on U Tube. The particular collection I paid $25 for when opened had two dvds pop out of the case and landing on the floor. The case cannot hold the dvds. These were obviously used and numerous scratches were on the disc already. Sound quality is low and faint. 1/3 of the selections were unable to play completely. Hopefully there will be a better edition out there somewhere. For now get your Betty on U Tube.

Product Description

The power, compact Denon D-F101S Micro Stereo System includes a CD player, integrated amplifier and tuner, and stereo bookshelf speakers, and it's sized just right for adding to a living room, bedroom, kitchen, or home office. The separate CD player and receiver offer a space-saving depth of just 9.8 inches and luxurious aluminum front panels. The system replicates the same engineering expertise found in larger, high-end Denon models, including discrete amplifier outputs for clear stereo separation, a large transformer for robust yet stable power (an impressive 70 watts x 2 into the supplied Mission bookshelf speakers), and a high-capacity heat sink.

The AM/FM tuner has a 40-station preset memory and the single-disc CD player is compatible with your own music mixes burned to CD-R/RW discs. The CD player also offers a 96-kHz, 24-bit D/A converter for utterly faithful sound reproduction with wide dynamic range and clear, detailed sound, and an 8-times oversampling digital filter to restore analog naturalness to digital sound.

The pair of acoustically matched speakers are designed and engineered by Denon, but with the added sound tuning expertise of acclaimed European Speaker Designers. They each feature a 0.75-inch sheer microfiber soft dome tweeter and a 4.5-inch woofer made of a woven-glass composite for rich, dynamic sound with detailed midrange and extended, open-sounding high frequencies. The speakers are constructed of high quality MDF and finished in an attractive European white-wood grain finish, with hi-end 5-way binding posts, permitting a wide variety of speaker cable/connection choices.

Convenience features include tone controls (bass, treble, loudness), dimmable display brightness (4 stages), auto function change (for one-touch switching from one sound source to another), a sleep timer (to automatically turn off the system in 10-minute increments up to 60 minutes), and an everyday timer (to automatically turn on/off the system at the same time each day).
