What country and culture's mythology or folktales do Gargoyles originate from?

The Universal Studio stores at the mall sell Betty Boop stuff.

I'm thinking of cartoons such as Tom & Jerry, etc. The song is an instrumental big band or swing band tune, with a brass instrument reaching a high crescendo and then scaling back down again.
The imagery associated with this song was usually the art deco stylings of Manhattan

I don't know what you call the actual STYLE of drawing. Is it manga? Or just plain cartoon drawings?
