Apple iPad upgrade likely to get STMicro gyro
Apple apparently tested a three-axis gyroscope from InvenSense in its iPad, but likely plans to use a similar device from STMicroelectronics in a future version of the tablet, according to an analysis by UBM TechInsights.
I continue my Mac Pro upgrade series. In this video, I add 2 hard drives to my tower. The first drive, a Western Digitial 1TB for Time Machine. The second is the original 250GB drive that came with the Mac Pro, which will be used as a Final Cut Pro scratch disk.
mac-ssd-drives.com – An aging G5 Apple iMac gets a speed bump by installing a 2.5″ laptop size SATA II SSD into a 3.5″ full size case for use in desktop computers like the iMac and Mac Pro towers. It should be noted most Macs – especially _consumer_ Macs prior to 2008 – only have SATA I speed controller chips. This isn’t a big technical issue because SATA II spec is backwards compatible. But in older Apple laptop and desktop systems – you don’t necessarily need to buy the most expensive, fastest SSD drive: Midrange SSD’s tend to match SATA I interface speeds quite well.
I upgraded my memory to 6GB in my January 2008 model Mac Pro and noticed the Apple manual for the system leaves out an important detail on the simple install instructions. You MUST install the larger matched pair in riser card 1 (or A).
What happens when you try to upgrade an old piece of Apple hardware? Okay, so it’s not THAT old… but still, this whole process definitely took much longer than I had originally expected. “Part One” introduces you to my iMac and what I plan to do with it, as well as opening the case and installing the new hard drive. Continue onto “Part Two” and that’s where the real fun begins. Both these videos are filled with lots of fun geek stuff, so you have been warned!
I upgraded my graphics card in my 2008 dual 2.8 Mac Pro from the stock ATI Radeon 2600XT to an Nvidia GeForce 8800GT. The reason – I want to have full OpenCL support when OS X Snow Leopard arrives. The procedure is simple but I thought I would share. chrisphadley.com
